HLNB Summer Challenge III - Day 18

August 18th Day 18:
Exercise:
Yesterday I walked 2 miles, watered my garden and mowed my front lawn with a manual lawn mower.  It's not only good for the environment because it doesn't use gasoline or electricity, but it's good exercise.  It's also much more quiet than regular lawn mowers.

Food:
I ate some raisin cinnamon toast, some roasted corn on the cob, some shrimp tacos and drank 100% fruit juices with all three meals.

Items to note:
See my contact information on the tabs above if you want to send me an email with any questions or suggestions.  With my "HLNB Challenge" I'm logging my daily activities of how I keep moving.  I'm not offering any medical advice or making any guarantees.  This is meant for fun and if you want to follow along I hope it will be fun and encouraging  for you too.  I'm also not logging everything I'm eating, only listing the healthier items. I'm trying to convert my family's food choices to more healthy options and fresh foods selections as well.  On days I'm listing more it means I'm replacing less healthy foods with healthier choices.  This is one of my personal healthy living goals. One day when I look back, I hope to see improvements on my activities and on my eating habits. Thanks for following along in the journey.

We have a manual mower, too. I love the way it sounds, but it desperately needs to be sharpened. How do you sharpen your mower's blades?

It's nice to meet you from SITS!

i would love a manual lawn mower! i think. there's just something appealing about the "less noise".

My uncle uses a manual lawn mower. I've always thought that was a neat thing!

Congrats on your SITS day!

Happy SITS Day! What a great challenge! I like the idea of breaking things down to daily goals to achieve a bigger goal!

I love my manual lawn mower!! Great exercise and the noise factor is especially an issue with me. Sounds like you had a great day - very inspiring!

Happy SITS day! The shrimp tacos sound divine. The pictures don't seem to be working for me? It could just be my browser, so unless others fuss, just ignore my note, but if there IS something wrong, I wanted to give you a heads up :)

I sure could benefit from getting involved in some kind of healthy challenge, but I'm horrible at these kinds of things. At least I'm getting out and walking more these days. Keep up the good work. I'm jealous of your ambition.

Congrats on keeping up with the challenge. I am fairly healthy but I need to be more committed. I don't walk nearly as often as I should. I need to incorporated more healthy habits. Happy SITS Day!

Hi Lynn,

Mine is actually fairly new so I haven't had that problem yet. I'm assuming there is some place you can take them to get them sharpened, maybe a local fix it man. I might have to do some research and write about it in a future blog! I know I will need to know for future reference as well.

Hi W,

Oh yes, it's wonderful. Have you ever been awakened on a weekend by a neighbors loud lawn mower? I have one who likes to do his at 6:ooam on Saturdays and he seems to wake us all up. At least with these manual lawn mowers, you wouldn't wake anyone up. And you don't smell like gasoline after mowing. And you don't need a long extension cord if your mower is electric. It just makes sense!

Hi Andrea,

Thanks! I'm trying to make the routines seem like normal everyday life and fun, not a strict, rigid thing you "have" to do. If you can do something for 30 days, it's likely to become a habit for you. And we do them all the time here. I do notice on days when I don't do my exercises or eat well, I do feel different. I notice something missing. I hope everyone doing them is having fun and feeling good. It makes the goal easier to achieve!

Hi Jester Queen,

Thanks! Sometimes I notice the pictures seem to disappear on my browser. I'll keep an eye out, I usually check my HTML codes to find out if the pictures are really gone or it's just my browser. Thanks for the heads up!

Hi Nessa,

I know what you mean. I've tried workout videos, going to gyms and I can't seem to keep that momentum going. I thought with these challenges if I try to make them fun and centered around my everyday life, it makes it easier to stick with it. I don't "have" to do any specific thing, I just try to keep moving and try to eat some healthy things each day. Even if I do eat my junk, I still try to get something healthy in each day. That makes it easier to get to my goals. Plus having others join on these challenges gives me more incentive to stick with it. I like to change it up and keep it fun!

Hi Melissa,

Thanks! I hope you enjoy checking out my blog. I try to add new recipes that are easy to make and quick. If you are busy and working who has time for long drawn out preparations. A good site to also check out is Julie Anne Rhodes, she is a personal chef and has great recipes. I wrote about her a few times and her blog is so fun too.

Hi Nicole,

Thanks! It's sometimes hard to walk more especially if you have a job where you sit at a desk all day. During the warm weather I get my husband to walk with me every evening. And in the AM I walk my dog. That's how I get my guaranteed 2 miles a day in. Anything over that is my everyday walking with errands etc. Dr. Oz says we should try to get in 5 miles a day. Right now that seems hard to achieve. But I know it's a great goal.

Hi Teresa,

I usually let my hubby do the lawn too. I just started this for the extra exercise and our front lawn is not quite as big as the back. So I still let him do that so he can get some exercise in too! I can't take that away from him can I?! he,he...
