For National Nutrition Month the theme this year is eating right with color. Today is the day for wearing green. But we can also add some greens to our meals and snacks for St. Patrick's Day. There are many good vegetables and fruits to eat today such as green apples, green grapes, string beans, broccoli, lettuce and avocados. If you get creative you can probably think of many more healthy choices. The green family of fruits and vegetables offer us low calorie intakes, some have potassium, and others are a good source of dietary fiber as well as Folate and Calcium. So make sure to eat your salad today, make a green smoothie, or just grab your green snack. It will make you feel better and keep your body healthy. It might be a good way to help children eat more greens by making today a fun day to eat greens.
I'm attaching a video from the Green Smoothie Girl blog showing an easy recipe for a green smoothie. Today would be a great day to give this one a try. Happy St. Patrick's Day!
