Flirting With Temptation Thursday - Duran Duran

This week I'm still having fun with Duran Duran music after the great concert I attended.  I've been listening to their music and replaying their videos in my mind.  I hope you will enjoy my temptation this week, a look at Duran Duran style!  Did you know they got their name from the movie Barbarella staring Jane Fonda?  They named themselves after the villain Dr. Durand Durand in the movie.  Even though the band has changed the line up over the years, they have never broken up and continue to play great music today.  In the 80's they were quite a fashionable band.  They always wore great clothes and their videos were fun to watch.  I hope you will enjoy my temptation today with a look at some great pictures of the band's style.

Classic Duran Duran.

Who can forget the Wild Boys?

Their newest CD.

Still fashionable and fun today!

HLNB Healthy Eating/Keep Moving Challenge - Day 3

October 4th Day 3:   Yesterday I worked in my yard with my dog for 1 hour.  I also went to a concert in the evening and walked around and also stood up and danced during the show.  It was a 3 hour concert so we were able to move around for most of our time there. I enjoyed the concert as it was one of my favorite groups Duran Duran and they put on a great show!

In the morning I ate another bowl of oatmeal with raspberries and a glass of orange juice.  For a late morning snack I ate some more pumpkin seeds.  At lunch I made a tuna sandwich on 100% whole grain wheat bread and drank a glass of V-8 fruit juice.  For dinner we made shrimp tacos with my homemade pico de gallo (the recipe from my post on March 12, 2011) and I added a little bit of cheese to  mine.  We had two shrimp tacos each and drank a glass of V-8 fruit juice.  At the concert we shared a pretzel.  I also drank water throughout the day.

HLNB Healthy Eating/Keep Moving Challenge - Day 2

October 3rd Day 2:   Yesterday I worked in my yard watering plants, vines and trees.  I worked for about 40 minutes and had my dog with me so she could get some exercise too.  Later in the early evening we walked around the neighborhood again for 20 minutes and logged 3,394 steps.

For breakfast I ate oatmeal with raspberries and drank a glass of orange juice.  I ate a little bit of popcorn in the morning as a snack, but didn't eat too  much because the popcorn had some butter and salt.  For lunch I had some great green chile which had some steak in it wrapped in a flour tortilla.  It was homemade and tasted delicious.  Later, I drank a Mix1 drink (I like the strawberry banana flavor) and ate some pumpkin seeds.  For dinner I had some more of my guacamole made with pico de gallo (my homemade recipe from my earlier post) and this time I ate it with flour tortillas so they were more like a burrito.  I had a chewy raisin oatmeal bar for a snack in the evening and ate a few more pumpkin seeds.  I also drank the V-8 fruit juices with lunch and dinner and drank water throughout the day.

So far it's not too hard trying to eat healthier, I do like my sugary snacks so I'll see how tempted I am during the next 28 days.  I'm still going strong on the "keep moving" portion of the challenge.  If you are also following let me know what you think the most challenging part will be for you during this next 28 days.

HLNB Healthy Eating/Keep Moving Challenge - Day 1

October 2nd Day 1:   Yesterday I hung on the pull up bar for 25 seconds. I still can't seem to pull myself up yet, but I'll keep trying.  I also walked during errands and parked further away to get in more exercise steps.  In early evening, we walked around the neighborhood.  I wore my pedometer and logged 3,397 steps during the walk.

In the morning I ate a bowl of grits with agave nectar and drank a glass of orange juice.  At lunch, I ate some barbecued chicken from our grill and drank a glass of V-8 fruit juice.  In the evening for dinner I ate 3 corn tortillas with guacamole that I made with an avocado and my homemade pico de gallo (my recipe from my post earlier this year).  I also drank another glass of V-8 fruit juice with dinner.  For snacks during the day I ate some pumpkin seeds cooked with sea salt and an Odwalla Berries GoMega Superfood bar. I also drank water throughout the day.

Summer Black Bean and Corn Salad - Daily Dish With Andrea Beaman

Today I'm adding a video from Andrea Beaman.  Andrea also has a show on the Veria channel that I watch as well called "Fed Up!".  I'm always looking for easy recipes that are also healthy.  In this video Andrea is showing how to make an easy black bean and corn salad.  It's easy to make and I agree with the idea of marinating dishes like this to add so much flavor to the dish.  This is also a healthy side dish that you can add to a meal or eat as a quick snack.  I think this is one I'm going to try during the next part of my challenge.  I hope you will give this a try also and let me know what you think about this recipe. If you'd like to read about Andrea you can check out her website by clicking below:

Congratulations for completing the "Keep Moving Challenge"!  After 30 days I noticed a weight loss of 1.5 pounds and 1% body fat.  It's been fun having a few people send me emails with their stats and questions.  It really does help to have others keep you motivated to stick to your routine.  Now that this 30 day milestone has passed I am thinking I might add a second part to the challenge.  October 1st will be our day off.  Beginning October 2nd, I'd like to keep doing the exercise portion of the challenge but also begin to add a better eating plan along with the exercise.  For the next month I'd like to try to stick with healthy snacks instead of sugary snacks and maybe try to cut back on cheese and other unhealthy options with food.  For those who followed along in part one I hope you will choose to take part in the second 30 days with me.  It helps to hear from others who are taking part in the activities.  Now that we have made a good habit of moving every day, maybe we can make it a habit to eat better snacks and meals.  It's not about deprivation; it's about moderation and healthy choices. At the end of these next 30 days, I'll share with you any differences I notice and I'd like to hear from you what you noticed as well.  If you weren't able to participate in part one, feel free to join us in part two.  I'd welcome any newcomers and be glad to hear from you. If you did follow in the first part, I'm hoping you will follow along with me on the second part of the challenge.

See my contact information on the tabs above if you want to send me an email with any questions or suggestions.  With my "Keep Moving Challenge" I'm logging my daily activities of how I keep moving.  I'm not offering any medical advice or making any guarantees.  This is meant for fun and if you want to follow along I hope it will be fun for you too.
