HLNB 30 Day Keep Moving Challenge - Day 10

September 10th Day 10:   Yesterday my husband and I walked for 1 mile which took about 20 minutes.  We talked and caught up with each  other and talked about things we wanted to do the next day.  It was a very relaxing walk.  Later in the evening I hung on the pull up bar for 16 seconds two times.  I did some work around this house.  I also did some watering in my garden.

Quick Beauty Tip - Cherry Ice Cream Smile

From one of my favorite groups Duran Duran the song Rio has the phrase "Cherry Ice Cream Smile" here is a combination I think comes close to that color.  First, I use the lip liner in the color Thistle from Bare Escentuals/Bare Minerals to line and fill in my lips.  Next, I use my natural lip stain by Tarte in the color Sweet.  It gives my lips a shiny glistening look and creates what I'm calling my "Cherry Ice Cream Smile".

The liner Thistle is on top and the bottom color is Sweet.

HLNB 30 Day Keep Moving Challenge - Day 9

September 9th Day 9:   Yesterday my weight training log was as follows:

Front Leg Curls with 30 lbs 12 reps 3sets
Back Leg Curls with 15 lbs 12 reps 3 sets
Biceps Curls with 5 lbs 12 reps 3 sets
Triceps Press 5 lbs 12 reps 3 sets

I also hung on the pull up bar for 15 seconds, three separate times.  I was able to hang on the bar for 5 more seconds than the other night and for one additional time.  So although it is small, there is progress.

We also walked our dog for about 15 minutes which was about a quarter of a mile.  I didn't have as active a day, this day seemed to get away from me and I did do errands but no yard work or stationary bike.

I also received a comment on how beautiful my skin looked yesterday and that I had a healthy glow to my face.  I don't know if the daily exercise routine is responsible or maybe the lime facial, but it made me feel good to hear the compliment.

Lime Facial

I saw this recipe on the show "The Doctors" and this was a fun one to try.  For this facial you will need:

3 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon brown sugar
½ cup fresh squeezed lime juice
A pinch of sea salt

You mix all the ingredients in a bowl and apply to your face.  Leave the mixture on your face for 10 minutes then rinse with warm water.  This is supposed to exfoliate your skin and brighten it as well.  You are supposed to use this once a week.  I tried it once and will probably do it again as I like the way my face smelled after and it felt very soft.  It was also easy to make.  I think if you substitute the brown sugar with Agave Nectar, it might be a good homemade salad dressing if you make too much for the facial!

HLNB 30 Day Keep Moving Challenge - Day 8

September 8th Day 8:  Yesterday I went for a walk in the afternoon with my Mom.  We walked about 1/2 hour and walked for 1 mile.  I also worked in my garden for 1/2 hour, I picked some tomatoes, pulled some weeds and also picked up some dog pooh (not fun but it counts!) in the yard.  In the evening, I decided to watch President Obama's speech to congress and as I did I rode my stationary bike with the stats below:

Time on the bike:  30 minutes
Distance: 5.64 miles
Speed:  between 11.2 and 11.5 mph
Total Calories burned:  143.00
Total Fat Calories burned:  44.6

After a little over a week of my personal "Keep Moving Challenge" I have noticed a 1/2 pound of weight loss.  Also, I have noticed I'm sleeping better at night.

HLNB 30 Day Keep Moving Challenge - Day 7

September 7th Day 7:   Yesterday I had a good exercise day.  I decided to try my weight training again but this time I added another set of reps for each exercise for a total of 36 reps each. My weight training log is as follows:

Front Leg Curls with 30 lbs 12 reps 3sets
Back Leg Curls with 15 lbs 12 reps 3 sets
Biceps Curls with 5 lbs 12 reps 3 sets
Triceps Press 5 lbs 12 reps 3 sets

I also added 10 push ups with my legs bent and I did them after my arm weights so it was a little difficult.  I think if I'm going to do both on the same day, I will do them at different times of the day next time so my arms don't feel so tired.  In the evening I tried hanging on the pull up bar which I was able to do for 10 seconds.  I did this twice.  I have never been very good at pull ups so my husband recommended I start out by seeing how long I can hang on the bar then work my way into being able to pull my chin up over the bar.  I'll let you know if I stick to this one as it seems impossible to me right now.

Later in the evening, I decided not to just sit down to watch television so I decided to do my stationary bike during a show.  My stats on the stationary bike are as follows:

Time on the bike:  31 minutes
Distance: 6.12 miles
Speed:  between 10.5 and 10.9 mph
Total Calories burned:  140.6
Total Fat Calories burned:  43.2

Once again the weather yesterday was cold and rainy so outdoor activities were not a good option.  I'm hoping we will still have some more warm weather so we will have more outdoor time to exercise.

A Recipe for Easy, Tasty Homemade Bruschetta

Made with ingredients from our garden.
We make our own Bruschetta to eat at home and it's very tasty.  This time of year we use tomatoes from our own garden and our own fresh basil and garlic.  To make this one you need some French bread which you can have sliced at some grocery stores in the bakery department.  It's easier than having to try and cut even slices at home.  First, you will need to chop up one medium size tomato into a bowl.  Then add a tablespoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil.  Next, add a small cap full (or teaspoon) of white vinegar.  Chop up some fresh basil leaves and add to the bowl (if fresh basil is out of season you can add dried basil as a substitute).  Then, with a garlic press add one small garlic clove.  I like to add a little sea salt and some pepper to taste.  Next, place the sliced bread under the broiler in the oven and let the bread brown.  You will need to keep an eye on this because it can brown quickly and burn so you want to take the slices out of the oven soon after they become golden brown.  Lastly, put the tomato mixture on the bread and eat it with your meal (it's great with pasta dishes) or as an appetizer.  It tastes great when you make it at home and you can add any seasonings or ingredients to make different variations for you and your family. It's much cheaper to make at home then to buy at a restaurant.  I hope you will enjoy this recipe!

HLNB 30 Day Keep Moving Challenge - Day 6

September 6th Day 6:   Yesterday I wanted to add some weight training into my personal "keep moving challenge" so I had my husband show me a few exercises to add that I think I can maintain on a regular basis.  I started with 12 reps of Front Leg Curls with 30 lbs.  I then did 12 reps of Back Leg Curls with 15 lbs (I must have weaker Back Leg muscles!).  Using 5 pound weights I did 12 reps of Biceps Curls and then 12 reps of Triceps Presses.  I did each of these exercises twice for a total of 24 reps for each exercise.  I did a little bit of housework and walked around doing errands.  The weather was a little cooler so I didn't do any outdoor activities.

HLNB 30 Day Keep Moving Challenge - Day 5

September 5th Day 5:    Yesterday I pulled weeds for about 20 minutes around the yard.  I watered my plants for about 15 minutes.  Did housework for about 30 minutes. In the evening we walked around the neighborhood for 1 mile which took about 25 minutes and I wore my Easytone shoes all day.

HLNB 30 Day Keep Moving Challenge - Day 4

September 4th Day 4: Yesterday I walked my dog for 1/2 mile which was about 15 minutes.  I wore my Easytone shoes for this walk.  In the evening our family went down to the lake and rode our kayaks.  I personally rode my kayak for about 20 minutes.  Also, during the day I tried to be aware of staying active as much as possible.  I tried to resist the urge to lay or sit down until bedtime.
